Getting started

From an empty account to the first governed answer in your own AI client. Nothing to host.

1. Create an account and a workspace

Sign up with your email and organisation name at app.projectoida.com/signup. OIDA creates the organisation and its workspace on first sign-in. The name you choose is used for the workspace endpoint. Display names can be changed later. The workspace is the boundary for data and access: every decision, source and audit event belongs to it.

Invite colleagues from Settings → Team. In reviewed mode admins and owners govern decisions; in peer mode every member does. Ontology approval remains admin/owner. Owners manage membership and organisation settings.

2. Copy the endpoint

Settings → Install shows the endpoint of your workspace. It has the form below. The last segment is the workspace slug.

Add it to your AI client following Connect an AI client. The client registers itself with the OIDA authorisation server and opens the sign-in and consent page in your browser. There is no API key to copy and no token to rotate.

3. Seed the ontology

Tell your AI, in plain language, how your organisation names its topics, scopes and source types, and which sources carry authority. The client calls start_ontology. OIDA answers with a proposal and waits. Nothing becomes active until an owner or admin approves it, in the web app or with edit_ontology.

When your description names no source types, the proposal carries default authority rules: decision records, ADRs and approved policies rank highest, meeting notes lower, chat lowest. Authority shapes which decision can become current. It never invents one.

4. Capture decisions

Paste minutes, a policy excerpt or a reviewed record and ask your AI to save it in OIDA. Decisions inferred from prose stay proposed until a person reviews them. Reviewed records with verifiable evidence can be stored as approved by an admin or owner. See Capturing decisions.

5. Ask, then review

Ask a normal question in the client. It calls resolve_decision_state and receives an answer with a state: current, contested, insufficient evidence or unknown, with the excerpts and sources behind it. Whatever OIDA could not resolve waits in Memory → Needs review for an owner or admin.

There is no limit on questions. Start with real ones: the answer shows what the record holds, and what it cannot resolve appears in Needs review for an owner or admin.
